How To Be An Effective Content Marketing Producer

A computer with the word content rocketing up–signifying a successful content marketing strategy

Content is King. In 1996, Bill Gates wrote an essay that forever changed the course of marketing. In it, he states, “the long-term winners [are] those who [use] the medium to deliver information.”

It’s hard to imagine that a 1996 Bill Gates envisioned the large and complicated role the internet would play in our lives, but he did. “When it comes to an interactive network such as the Internet, the definition of ‘content’ becomes very wide….Opportunities are remarkable“.  In this article, we’ll explore the opportunities available to all of us in 2023 to become more effective content marketers.

Opportunities are Remarkable

The internet has provided us with opportunities that we could have never imagined in the past. For example, the ability to connect with people worldwide changed how we view ourselves and our role on this planet. As content producers, we’ve seen increased demand for high-quality content relevant to our target audience. At GOA-TECH we’re constantly asked what it takes to be an effective content marketer and how to utilize content marketing strategy for content production.

Defining Your Content Marketing Strategy

The first step to building an effective content marketing campaign is to define your strategy. Ideally, a content strategy is creating by collaborating  with your team and your client, but at the end of the day, it’s up to you to make sure that your company’s content marketing plan is consistent with its overall brand strategy. If you don’t have a solid strategy in place, it can be difficult to know what kind of content to produce or how frequently to publish new articles.

You may also struggle to figure out the right tone for each piece of content. And without a plan for how often and why each type of article should be published, it may be hard to decide whether or not certain types of articles are resonating with your intended audience. When defining your strategy, identify the goals are most important for your business right now, then decide which type of content will help achieve those goals.

Identify Goals For Effective Content Production

The first step in defining your content marketing strategy is identifying your goals. What do you want from this campaign? What do you hope readers will get out of reading all these pieces of content? What are their biggest pain points? What problems do they have that need solving? How can we delight them by providing information about these topics?

Once these questions have been answered, it’ll be easier for us to start thinking about the content.

Determine The Content Type

What’s the content type? Is it a case study, a blog post, video content, or an infographic?

The content type is one of the first things you need to think about when planning your project. The type of content will inform how you go about creating and distributing it. For example, if you want to create a video for your audience, then you’ll need to consider the best way to distribute that video. Whether it’s through an email marketing campaign, lead generation, social media ads, or something else entirely.

It is also a major factor in the effectiveness of your content marketing. It’s important to know what type of content you want to create and how it will be consumed by your audience because this will affect your content creation and digital marketing processes.

Learn The Content Production Process

If you want to be an effective content marketing producer, it’s important to learn the process. Content production is a multi-step process that involves the creation of the actual content and its subsequent distribution. Content producers are responsible for all steps in between these two points, ensuring that the brand’s message is conveyed clearly and effectively.

The content production process is an involved one. It’s not just about writing, it’s also about planning, strategising, and promoting. As a content producer, you are responsible for making sure all of these elements come together to create the best possible product.

Identify Platforms for an Effective Content Production Process

To be a content marketing producer, you need to understand the platforms you’re working on. Each platform has its own audience and environment that needs to be understood in order for your content strategy to be effective. You also need to know where you’re going to produce your content. It’s not enough to just say “I’m going to create a blog,” or “I’ll make a Facebook post.” You have to actually think about what platforms are best suited for your goals, and then use those platforms. For example, if you want to get more engagement on social media platforms, then you should consider creating Instagram stories over Facebook stories because they get higher engagement rates.

Identify the platforms where your target audience spends time, and then use that information to inform the content you create. For example, if your audience is composed primarily of millennials, it makes sense to create videos for them on YouTube rather than long-form blog posts.

Be Aware Of The Trend and Create an Editorial Calendar

The most important thing that you can do to be a content marketing producer is to be aware of trends and create a content calendar.

If you want to create great content, you need to know what your audience is interested in. What are they talking about? What do they want to learn about? What are people searching for? This will help you understand what types of articles people are looking for so that as a producer, you can create them.

Once you have an idea of what topics your audience cares about, it’s time to make a plan. You’ll want to sit down with your content team and decide which topics should go into which months/quarters/years. This will serve as a guide to content marketing for your team’s marketing goals. It would also help ensure that there’s no overlap between pieces, but allows you room to grow with new ideas or stories as they come up.

Look For What Works For Your Marketing Content

As a content marketing producer, you have to have your finger on the pulse of what is working in your industry. We’re all guilty of this. We see a cool new strategy and think, “Hey, that’s what my company needs.” But the truth is, it’s not just about the strategy; it’s also about how well it fits with your target audience and brand.

So instead of being sucked into every new trend that comes along, look for what works for your marketing content. Think about what your customers actually want to read (not just what they should be reading). Look at what works. Look at the data. Look at the analytics, and see what has been shared, and what hasn’t been shared.

Bottom line? Don’t try to be trendy; try to be relevant.

Determine The Voice And Tone For Your Content Creation

Deciding on the voice or tone of your content is one of the most important decisions that you can make. It helps define your brand, and it helps guide your audience as they read through your content. Your voice and tone should be defined by your personality, brand, and content strategy.

You’ll need to decide what type of content will resonate with your audience. This might mean being more conversational or fact-driven depending on who you’re talking to or what type of product/service you offer. For example: if I’m writing about the best way to use a certain tool in this guide (I know it’s confusing) then I would use very specific language that’s technical because that’s my audience and what they expect from me.

If I was talking about how to make a phone call then I’d probably use more conversational language because everyone knows how to do it so there wouldn’t be much learning involved for them in reading this article.

Create Content

When you’re a content marketing producer, it can be hard to ensure you’re creating the content you want. You want to create something that will resonate with your audience and help move their business forward, but how are you supposed to know what that is? It’s simple: just listen to them.

If you want to be a content marketing producer, all it takes is being able to listen closely to what your audience wants. And then delivering it in a way that appeals directly to them. You can have all the content in the world, but if it’s not up to par, you’re dead in the water. On top of that, quality content will help your brand build trust with its audience and increase engagement. You want to get your content to align with the content ideas you gathered during this process.

For Effective Content Marketing, Quality Trumps All

Quality is the most important aspect of content marketing. If you want your readers to come back, and if you want them to share what they’ve read with others in their network, then you need to give them something worth reading.

You should always keep this in mind when creating content: it’s not just about getting people to click on links and visit websites; it’s also about giving them something that will make their lives better or more interesting or inspiring in some way. In other words, quality trumps quantity every time.
