Miami-Dade County’s first Women’s Chamber of Commerce was established in 1984 by Mrs. Thelma Gibson with the belief that business women of all races and nationalities should have a forum where they could gain momentum, express their thoughts, and come together as one voice – to be heard by all throughout the County. In 1984, the Chamber had 21 members. Today hundreds of women and men have become part of the Chamber, making it one of the the fastest growing women’s professional organization in Miami-Dade County.

The HPOA provides recognized charities with volunteers for their events. Organizations that have benefited from this service include La Liga Contra el Cancer, JDFR, POAT, PBA Love Fund, and the Jackson Memorial Hospital just to name a few. The HPOA provides career enhancement training, masters program, and management training courses on a regular basis, or if members seeking promotion. The HPOA provides limited legal assistance to members requiring legal representation for incidents arising from the performance of their duty.
